Curio climbs ramp at Lyndhurst Toronto Rehab

Curio Impresses at Lyndhurst Rehab

On April 3rd, Cheelcare had the honor of demonstrating the Curio robotic wheelchair at the Lyndhurst Rehab Centre in Toronto, Canada. Known as the largest rehab center in the country, Lyndhurst holds significant influence in the field of rehabilitation and assistive technologies. This visit was not just a routine demo; it marked a pivotal moment for Cheelcare and the future of assistive mobility solutions.

The Demo Experience

Lyndhurst's indoor obstacle course is designed to challenge manual wheelchairs with slopes and curbs that typically daunt power wheelchairs. However, Curio handled these obstacles effortlessly, showcasing its advanced capabilities. Starting with a small demonstration for the seating clinic team, the performance quickly drew a crowd, eventually captivating over 30 people.

Innovative Features Highlighted

Curio's unique features were the highlight of the demo. The therapists were particularly impressed with its abilities, namely:

  • Lower Height Adjustability: Curio can be adjusted to very low heights, making it easier for users to interact with children or pets, and to pick up items from the floor without strain.
  • Auto-Leveling: This feature ensures stability and safety, allowing users to navigate uneven terrains and steep inclines without fear of tipping.
  • Omni-Wheels: These wheels provide unparalleled maneuverability, enabling tight turns and smooth navigation across various surfaces.

Therapists’ Feedback

The feedback from the therapists at Lyndhurst was overwhelmingly positive. They called Curio a "game changer" and noted its potential to benefit a wide range of their clients. With their help, Cheelcare was able to secure the required letters of support to submit Curio to the Ontario Assistive Devices program for listing.
